:: a wee humpday house update ::

It's nearly been a week since my last post, and I miss you all already.

Firstly, our Internet won't be connected until 22nd May (because I was silly and only rang Optus 2 days before the move), so I'm going to be mostly absent from blogger/facebook/the planet until then.

Secondly, wheeeeeeeeee! We're home owners!! Or bank-bound-beings, rather.

Settlement went through smoothly (thank God) at 11:45am on Friday 11th May. I think I sizzled the stressometer in my head that morning up until that point. Silly, i know, but the removal truck was due at 12noon, and I would not have been able to handle any delays with getting the keys so our belongings could be dropped off! So my grey hairs were gained for no cause.

The real estate very kindly presented the keys on a bottle of the bubbly stuff:

The truck ended up being 2 hours late, meaning I didn't get to start cleaning our old place till late, so it got a bit crazy. Very thankful for my mother-in-law who came to the rescue (straight from work) to help me finish off. The bathroom was literally sparkling when she'd done!

The boys (Jason & his brother) had been over at our new home with the truck, so it was then time to go and sus out the giant mess & think about where to begin. Unfortunately, because it had been tenanted previously, it was so super grotty; I didn't want to touch a thing. I couldn't believe the state of the kitchen. This should have all been cleaned before settlement. The only wonderful thing was the new carpet. So at least we could go to bed with a clear concience that night, and drop our socks on the floor without fear.

Saturday, we got to cleaning. Jason's family came around again which was so fantastic. They tackled the bathroom and I tackled the kitchen. I emerged six hours later. Well it was 8 hours really, but that's counting the lunch/morning tea/afternoon tea breaks. So much grime. But NOW. Ah-haa! It's up to Hannah-standards and I would confidently eat dinner off the bench with my tounge if I had to.

Slowly things are coming together. Still a lot to do, but it's a great little home and I'm loving making it ours. Presently swooning over light fittings at all the lighting shops.... So many painfully hard choices. ;)

Bastian is in doggy heaven, enjoying jumping over our city of weeds. He has a brand new kennel which we haven't put together yet, so once that's up, his life will be complete.

Thirdly and lastly, please let it be Friday tomorrow?

x

  3. Wow, that is just so exciting - you are home owners! Glad the stress is almost behind you....put your feet up for some bubbly this weekend :-)
    I know how horrible it is to move into a new place and clean someone else's dirtyness....most unpleasant. You are such a model housekeeper, so I'm sure it looks sensational now!
    Puppy dawg is sooo darn cute.

    1. Thanks m'lovely!! I'm afraid it's not quite sensational just yet... still lots to go! I've completely run out of kitchen cupboards (no pantry - yet :-S) so the unpacking is all on hold! Good practice for me in being patient lol.

  4. Hurrah you're in!!! That's awful you had to clean the entire house as soon as you moved in!!! :( How did the agents let that happen? Hmmm... I guess anything's possible. That's ok, you've plenty of time to make your house a home so enjoy the process thoroughly, Han. :) xo

    1. Yeah I thought the same... aren't they supposed to have it presentable?? Anyway a couple of days ago we had a knock at the door and the previous owner was there to apologise for the mess (apparently she'd been in hospital) and gave us a $100 Coles voucher. So that was nice... lol

    1. Thanks Brittany! I wish I could post some photos but there is still a fair way to go. Painting will be a long time down the track! We're doing what we can.
