Yesterday we indulged in this:
a Black Forest Trifle
...from one of the most delightful cookbooks in my possession
You start off with a chocolate sponge roll, which you lay on the bottom as
the first layer...
then add a mix of berries & cherries for the 2nd layer. Drain the berries first, but it's ok if some juice gets onto the cake.
Put that in the fridge while you make the chocolate custard.
Mix 4 Tablespoons of sugar, 2 Tab of cornflour & six egg yolks in a bowl with a splash of milk...
Then heat up 700 mls of milk on the stove till neaaaarly boiling...
while the milk is heating, get 100grams of dark chocolate..
...and some for yourself
Add the egg mixture to the hot milk and whisk quickly...
throw the chocolate into the custard...
I found a magic ingredient in the cupboard (from my hens night!)
Added about 60mls...
Custard ready! Start layering it with more cake & berries.
Once it's all done, put in the fridge for the custard to cool fully before adding cream to the top.

Hmmmm I'm comparing this to your recent food posts... Which is the odd one out?! :p haha Sounds like that health food took the back seat during dessert ;) lol x
ReplyDeleteSo yummo. I wish Dan liked trifle! I had to laugh seeing your treadmill appear in one of the photos above ;-)
ReplyDeleteGood to see you're paying attention Miss Bek :P. We had people over for dinner, so I took the chance to get a bit naughty :)
ReplyDeleteoh my, this looks so delicious!!!!!!!! I wish I loved cooking and baking as much as I love eating in general. See my dilemma? lol
ReplyDeleteCooking is theraputic for me. But it isn't great for the waist, so perhaps you're in a good position Aimee!
DeleteLooks nice! so sad too much chocolate gives me migranes, actually cherry flavor gives me migranes too :S First time commenting here, have a nice day :)
ReplyDeleteHey Anna! So nice to see your pretty name on my blog. That is just too bad about the chocolate. But I guess it would stop you from over-indulging! Not much stops me... :-/
DeleteAnd here I was thinking I'd invented the Black Forest Trifle and it was in a recipe book all along! Yours looks amazing. In fact, I'd like some right now, even though I imagine it's long gone. SO GOOD.
ReplyDeleteHehe, that's funny. I'm positive you still did invent it. Everything is invented more than once, all over the world ;)
